Hey Everybody,
Well, I had been saying for a couple of years now, that I was "flying under the radar" every time there was a lay-off. So we (my family) had "off and on" tried to get prepared. Regardless of how hard you try, you're never actually prepared, for the mental part or the money part. But anyway, I had told my husband, Ted, that I wanted to paint the inside of our house, while I was out of work and trying to decide what to do. In mid-February, we bought a bunch of paint, brushes, rollers, etc. So, on March 3rd, I got busy. So far, I have painted our kitchen, hallway, bathroom, and livingroom. This week our daughter, Brianna, is out of school for spring break, so we have been able to spend some time together. I've been working on bedroom closets while she's here to help me, especially with hers. We took everything out of them and I painted the insides of all 3. That was tough! Next week I'll paint our bedroom and the following week, I'll finish up with her room. Then the painting job will be done for several years! The walls are not so bad but the trim work and ceilings have been the hardest. Oh yea, Ted showed me how to use a caulking gun. That was actually fun. Well, maybe not fun-fun.
We have also started our garden. So far, we have planted cabbage, onions, green peas and potatoes. It's bad when you go to the grocery store and buy a can of peas for $1.08, but you can buy seeds to grow enough to last all year for about $2.00. Canning is a lot of hard work, but it is nice to step to the basement and get your veggies in the winter.
I have to go to ESC Monday to start my signing up. I've checked on the school thing. There are a lot of rules, regulations, deadlines, etc and it seems every step has to be approved by Raleigh. Since I am undecided on what sort of classes to take, I have to take a test to let a computer program decide what I am best suited for,..... I think it will be interesting to see what the computer program says. Maybe it will say I could become a rocket scientist, or a brain surgeon (hahaha). I'll post again, when I find out what the results are.

Hi Cindy,
I will be taking that same test at the esc maybe tomorrow. I tried to make an appiontment but they told me to just come in. I'm leaning towards criminal justice technology. I spoke with the Madison Police Chief yesterday to get a little more direction. I have to speak with the guy who teaches that to see if it is feasible or not. If I have to do physical training I will be S.O.L. but maybe I will get lucky. My second choice is Computer information technology. Might be more my style anyway.
Later,
Hi CIndy,
Nice to hear that you are using your 'time off' constructively. A fresh coat of paint sure livens up a room and makes the whole house look new.
When you plant that garden put in a few extra rows, You can sell the extra produce to people who don't have time to garden and people like me who neglect their gardens.
